Pumpkin Puree FAQ
Is “canned pumpkin” and “pumpkin puree” the same thing? Generally yes. In North America, the term canned pumpkin and pumpkin puree are often used interchangeably when referring to canned pumpkin puree. In parts of the world where canned pumpkin puree is not available, pumpkin puree will would refer to pumpkin that has been cooked and pureed at home.
Can you freeze pumpkin puree? Absolutely! Pumpkin puree freezes very well. Simply place in a freezer bag or container and freeze up to 3 months, for best quality. Ideally, thaw frozen pumpkin in the fridge overnight, before using. After thawing, there may be a layer of water on top of the pumpkin. Simply stir that back in to the pumpkin before using.
Top Tip! Measure the amount of pumpkin puree before freezing and mark the amount on the outside of the freezer bag or container, so you’ll know exactly how much you have on hand for future baking projects.
How long with pumpkin puree keep in the fridge? Pumpkin puree will keep well in the fridge for 5-7 days. Remove it from the can and place in a storage container or a bowl, well covered.
